This small service company has been in business for over 20 years. They offer expertise in public document retrieval, search and recording services, process services and medical records retrieval for law firms, attorneys, title plants and escrow officers.

In 2006 the company began expanding its service offering and decided to assemble an external support team to increase volume and awareness among its target market. The company did not have a dedicated marketing department and accepted my proposal to become their marketing intern for the summer of 2006.

Mediation Intern

  • Gained insight to employer/employee discrimination issues by observing mediations.
  • Observed how mediators and human resource representatives managed the mediation process during mediation.
  • Learned about mediation and conflict resolution.

Selected from the University of Houston's academic internship program to become a mediation intern at the EEOC's Houston District Office.

The EEOC encourages the use of an alternative dispute resolution known as mediation. Mediation is an informal process in which a neutral third party assists the opposing parties to reach a voluntary, negotiated resolution of a charge of discrimination.

This enterprise has more or less been in operation since 1999 and was officially created in 2002 in order to consolidate a variety of freelance business activities under one financial account. Through the years, as the Owner/Sole Proprietor, I provided a variety of services and performed many functions including: Property manager, investor, project supervisor, laborer, bookkeeper, copy writer, sales, promotion, staffing, etc.

Volunteer: Board of Directors

I rotated through key positions including secretary, treasurer and president. The following are some of my duties and accomplishments since becoming a volunteer in 2000:

  • Initiated and implemented a revitalization process for the property.
  • Analyzed and organized an incoherent financial mess, ultimately collecting and saving the Association thousands of dollars.
  • Created an income and expense reporting system.
  • Made deposits, paid expenses and had custody of corporate funds.
  • Kept full and accurate accounts of receipts and disbursements.
  • Increased financial reserves by making proposals and convincing owners to be pro-active.
  • Prepared meeting agendas and correspondence.
  • Directed meetings.
  • Entered into agreements for the association.
  • Managed general business affairs of the corporation.
  • Managed resident relations.
  • Put into practice the Association's Policies and Procedures (rules and regulations).
  • Composed and delivered letters, notices, and meeting minutes.

419 Marshall Condominiums Association, Inc.

This non-profit corporation was organized pursuant to the Texas Non-Profit Corporation Act to administer the operation and management of a condominium project. All owners of recorded fee simple title to one or more units in the condominium project are members of the association.

The Board of Directors consists of volunteers from the Association who are elected to positions by fellow owners and members. The Board of Directors manage the affairs of the Association. Since 2000, I have rotated through key positions including secretary, treasurer, and president. At this time, I serve as president-elect.
